A DC cable with two male connectors (often called a DC power jumper) is a special type of power cable with male connectors at both ends. Unlike regular extension cables used to connect power to devices, a cable with two male connectors is designed to connect two devices that both have female power ports (sockets).
Main Use:
This type of cable acts as a power “connector.” In a typical electronics setup, the power adapter (male connector) plugs into the device (female connector). However, in professional AV setups, security systems, or DIY electronics, you may need to take power from a female output port—such as a battery distribution box or power splitter—and route that power to another female input port.
Key technical specifications to consider:
To ensure safe and efficient operation, three main factors must be considered:
  • Connector size: The most common standard is a 5.5mm x 2.1mm round connector, but there are also variations such as 5.5mm x 2.5mm or 3.5mm for smaller electronic devices.
  • Polarity: According to industry standards, most DC cables are wired in a “center-positive” configuration, meaning the inner pin carries a positive voltage and the outer sheath is the ground wire (negative terminal).
  • Load capacity (Wire cross-section): The thickness of the copper wire inside (AWG) determines the current (Amps) that the cable can safely carry without overheating or causing significant voltage drop.
